The departure of the Sampras-Agassi duo left a big void in American tennis and unfortunately, it"s still there. Though, Andy Roddick did win a Grand Slam and ignited the hopes of Americans, he just could not live up to their expectations in a longer run. But, it seems that a decade long void will be filled very soon, as lanky John Isner has shown all the signs to emerge as the new force of American tennis.

After the completion of recently concluded BNP Paribas Open, many hailed John Isner as the next big thing of the American tennis. Isner finished as a finalist in this ATP World Tour 1000 Tournament, where he lost to Roger Federer, but he did earn the attention of everyone after his three sets victory over World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the semi-final.

Though, it was another disappointing experience for the American fans to see Isner losing to Roger Federer, before that, Isner did all the right things and showed that he has the potential and desire to go places in the world of men"s tennis. Many expected Nadal-Djokovic duo to leave people awestruck before the start of this tournament, but it was John Isner of USA who showed that he has come of age - and garnered all the attention of his home-fans. Many past greats of American tennis have also said that Isner has the potential to play a crucial role in   America"s  bid to reclaim Davis Cup title.

Isner could not win the title in Indian Wells, but he managed to crack into the Top 10 in the ATP Rankings and also announced his presence. If we look at the current situation of the US tennis then it is pretty evident that Andy Roddick"s heydays are behind him and it would require a herculean effort from him to make some drastic progress in his rankings. On the other hand, the 30-year-old Mardy Fish has not been able to rekindle his magic on court this season like he did last years and he does not look confident about his game - of late.

Isner has got one of the most devastating serves on tour and he can make the most of it - against all the big guns, like he showed against Djokovic. Isner is oozing with confidence amidst present state of affairs and he has improved a lot in his backhand and volley play. Well, the American has a very good 14-5 win-loss record this season, which says a lot about his current form.
